Thirty years ago, Bougainville was emerging from one of the Pacific’s most brutal conflicts.

Years of violence had shattered communities, destroyed trust and cost thousands of lives. Conventional approaches had failed to bring lasting peace.

Then New Zealand tried something radically different.

They sent in an international peace mission without guns.

No weapons.
No threats.
No show of force.

Instead, they brought culture, music, women, conversation and a willingness to listen.
